The Workshop
In this one-day intensive workshop, participants will reflect on and respond to the panel discussions from the day before. Interacting with transcript text using words, images, graphic interruptions and collage, the output will be a participatory volume that invites further, iterative dialogue on reciprocal mentorship.
About
Sheila Sampath
Sheila Sampath (she/they) is an award-winning artist, activist and educator. She is the Editorial Facilitator at The Positive Side, a national, bilingual magazine for people living with HIV, Editor Emeritus at Shameless magazine, a national feminist magazine for teens of marginalized genders, the Principal and Creative Director at The Public, a community-centred design studio and gallery specializing in designing processes for community self-determination, and a Professor in the Bachelor of Digital Communications program at Humber College where she lectures on art, design and social movements.
Sheila has served on the board of the Toronto Rape Crisis Centre/Multi-Cultural Women Against Rape (where she worked as a counsellor, court-support worker, and organizer), the South Asian Visual Arts Centre, and is currently on the board of CARFAC Ontario. She is recipient of a Planned Parenthood Toronto Choice in Media award, an RGD So(cial) Good Award, the Faculty of Design Teaching Award at OCAD University (Assistant Professor of Alternative and Speculative Practices), and was named a 2020 and 2021 Woman of Distinction by the YWCA Toronto for improving the lives of women and girls through the arts.
